Dragonborn Warlock Names — Patrons, Pacts & Dark Power
Dragonborn warlock names sorted by patron type — because the pact you made should echo in the name you carry.
Blue dragonborn (lightning) and Black dragonborn (acid) are the top ancestry picks for warlocks — both thematically and mechanically. Best warlock names lean dark and bound: Vrexalis, Mordenthal, Shadrix (Fiend); Voidrex, Whispereth (Great Old One); Dracovex, Wyrmbound (Draconic patron). Names with sharp endings (-vex, -eth, -al, -ix) suit the warlock register — powerful, earned, slightly dangerous.

Dragonborn Warlock Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Blue dragonborn (lightning breath, lightning resistance) is the strongest mechanical fit for warlocks: Agonizing Blast deals force damage, so lightning breath adds a different damage type that many enemies lack resistance to. Black dragonborn (acid breath) is close behind — acid resistance is rare, and the dark aesthetic of a corrupted black dragonborn warlock is hard to beat thematically. For Great Old One patrons, aberrant or shadowy chromatic ancestries (Black, White, Green) fit better. For Fiend patrons, Red or Bronze dragonborn reinforce the hellfire flavour.
Warlock names sit at the intersection of draconic heritage and eldritch pact — they should feel old, bound, and slightly dangerous. Good dragonborn warlock names avoid the "paladin nobility" register and lean toward shadow and power: Vrexalis, Shadrix, Grimvex, Mordenthal. Names with sharp endings (-ix, -al, -eth, -vex) work well. A contracted name (someone who gave up their birth name as part of their pact, now going by a single word) is a compelling warlock concept — "I was Khorvash Delmirev. The pact took the rest."
The most interesting dragonborn warlocks have a specific tension: dragonborn culture prizes self-reliance, personal honour, and clan identity — making a pact with an external power (especially a fiend or eldritch horror) can sit uneasily with that background. A dragonborn warlock who made their pact in desperation, who hides it from their clan, or who seeks to break the pact someday creates richer roleplay than one who simply chose power for its own sake. The draconic heritage and the eldritch pact should rub against each other.
With Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, yes — the Draconic patron is official. A dragonborn with a dragon patron has interesting implications: they carry draconic blood but submitted to a specific dragon's power rather than their own heritage. This works especially well for characters who want more draconic power than their bloodline gives them, or who are specifically bound to a named dragon with plot significance. The tension between "I am draconic" and "I serve a dragon" is rich territory.
Fiend patrons work well with chromatic dragonborn — especially Red and Black — as the destructive fire/acid breath pairs with hellfire aesthetics. Great Old One suits Blue or White dragonborn (cold intelligence, alienated from normal dragonborn society). Archfey patrons work surprisingly well with Brass or Bronze dragonborn — social, clever, manipulative. Undying or Undead patrons pair with Black dragonborn who have a death-adjacent clan history. The Draconic patron from Fizban's is the most narratively natural fit for any dragonborn.
